Wat staat je allemaal te wachten bij een stamcel/beenmerg transplantatie? Die vraag is me de afgelopen weken veel gesteld. Inmiddels zijn we wel wat wijzer geworden, maar de details weten we pas als we het hele behandelschema met de arts hebben doorgenomen.
Het enige verschil tussen beenmergtransplantatie en stamceltransplantatie is de wijze van doneren. In het verleden werden de stamcellen bij de donor rechtstreeks uit het beenmerg gehaald (beenmergtransplantatie), maar tegenwoordig worden de stamcellen vrijwel altijd rechtstreeks uit het donorbloed gehaald (stamceltransplantatie).
Het zoeken van een donor start binnen de familie, en dan met name bij broers of zussen. De kans dat een broer of zus donor kan zijn is 25%. Het is te hopen dat dit bij mij gaat lukken omdat de kans op afstotingsverschijnselen dan kleiner zijn, en de chemo’s minder zwaar. Als hij/zij geen donor kan zijn gaat men zoeken in de Europese donorbank naar een geschikte donor. Wordt die niet gevonden dan kan nog gezocht worden in een donorbank die is opgebouwd met bloed uit de navelstreng. Vrijwel altijd wordt er binnen 3 maanden een donor gevonden.Dan zal het moment van transplantatie moeten worden bepaald. Ik moet een week of 4-5 in het ziekenhuis worden opgenomen. Men begint met met de ontstekingsremmer Prednison en daarna starten een aantal zware chemokuren ;-( en tenslotte nog full body bestraling. Alles is er op gericht om de weerstand te verminderen zodat de donorstamcellen goed aan kunnen slaan. Daar zit natuurlijk direct het enge van de zaak. Met nagenoeg geen weerstand lig je in een vreemde omgeving te wachten. Zal dan wel afgeschermd liggen van de buitenwereld. Haha, mogelijk wel fysiek afgeschermd, maar ik hoop op de goede dagen toch wel met een laptop met internet en Skype nog met de buitenwereld te kunnen communcieren. 😉
Op de dag van de bestraling wordt ook de donor aangesloten op een apparaat waar zijn/haar bloed doorheen stroomt. De stamcellen, die vooraf dankzij een aantal injecties in de donor, in aantal behoorlijk zijn toegenomen, worden dan uit het bloed gehaald en opgevangen. De rest van het bloed stroomt weer terug naar de donor.
De dag erna krijg ik de nieuwe stamcellen als een soort infuus in een paar uur tijd ingebracht. Zij moeten zich dan via mijn bloed gaan nestelen in de botten en hun werk gaan doen. Risico van dit moment is dat de nieuwe stamcellen een aantal goede zaken in mijn lichaam, zoals huid, lever en darmen, zien als “vreemd” materiaal, en dit gaan aanvallen. Indien mogelijk wordt dit met medicijnen onderdrukt.
Meest aparte dat ik geleerd heb is dat mij bloedgroep zal veranderen als de donor een andere bloedgroep heeft als ik nu heb. Ongelofelijk toch? Net een auto waarin je een andere motor zet.
P.S. Net even langs de huisarts geweest voor een Hb meting : 4.9 Neemt dus af (was 5.1). Valt me wel op de dat de metingen in het UMCU hoger uitvallen dan in het Hofpoort en bij de huisarts. Hoop dat alle analyzers wel goed zijn gecalibreerd….

Have they been taught about muscle vs. fat, though? I mean, I worked with a trainer very briefly who never even mentioned it. Also, I’ve had a nutritionist who never talked about it. I notice on other BL shows from other countries that it is practically never mentioned at all. At least not that is aired. I STILL don’t know how the muscle gain works. When it starts, how much, etc. Perhaps it is something that simply hasn’t been addressed to them yet?

I did get tattoos for my kids – footprints from day of birth with names and dates. It’s one footprint for each so the two together make a pair. When it was just Sairshe and she was old enough to talk I told her that when she had a sibling the other footprint would be there.It’s cool because we can keep referring to my arm – where the tattoo is – to show them how small their feet were when they were born.Also, the tattoo for my kids was not my first nor my last. For them tattoos are just kind of normal. Frankly, in Portland, ink is pretty normal.

Hi halherta.You were right. WinAVR was the root cause of my problems. Thank you very much.So first of all I have changed the name of WinAVR catalogue (“WinAVR” to “_WinAVR”) and than I reinstalled gcc-arm-none-eabi. I made sure that “make all” and “make clean” works with iotogglem0. When I change back WinAVR catalogue to “WinAVR” those problems appear. I’ll try to make WinAVR and arm coexist on my PC with no influence on each other but for now it is not so needed. Pawel R.
