De laatste onderzoeken en de uitslagen.

MAANDAG 23-1 onderzoeken.

Echo onderbuik.

Even voor zes uur loopt de wekker af. Dat vond ik altijd al vroeg, maar nu helemaal, en zeker omdat we op vrijdag nog laat naar bed zijn gegaan. Kan me niet herinneren dat ik, sinds ik ziek ben, zo vroeg ben opgestaan. Kwart voor zeven in de auto omdat ik om 8 uur de 1e afspraak heb staan. Moet me nuchter melden voor een buikecho. De arts wil weten hoe groot mijn milt is vlak voor de behandeling, zodat we later kunnen meten wat het effect  van de stamceltransplantatie hierop is. We zijn ruim op tijd en precies om 8 uur 😉 word ik naar binnen geroepen. De organen in de onderbuik worden bekeken en de milt blijkt 14-15 cm te zijn. Dat is een paar centimeter groter dan normaal (12,5cm).

Longfunctietest.
Om 9 uur melden we ons bij de poli longziekten voor de longfunctietest. Met een knijper op mijn neus doe ik de verschillende testen. Hard inademen, uitblazen, en adem inhouden. Ben zo ontzettend blij dat ik nooit heb gerookt en wel veel gesport. Alleen de test waarbij de hoeveelheid zuurstof die in mijn bloed wordt opgenomen wordt gemeten gaat minder. Tja, met zo’n laag Hb is dat te verwachten. Niets verontrustends dus.
Beenmergpunctie.
Tot nu toe heb ik alle onderzoeken gewoon ondergaan zonder er tegenop te zien. Eerlijk gezegd is het allemaal ontzettend interessant om te zien wat ze allemaal kunnen en lijkt het soms alsof ik naar iemand anders zit te kijken. Een tv programma of zo, waarin goed wordt uitgelegd wat er allemaal gedaan wordt. UIteraard besef ik echt wel dat het om mijzelf gaat en ben ik niet naief.
Om 10:30 meld ik me bij de bekende afdeling waar ik straks kom te liggen, maar nu voor een beenmergpunctie/botboring. Dit onderzoek heb ik in het Hofpoort al eens gehad (zie item woensdag 21 september 2011). Er doen over dit onderzoek vele verhalen de ronde en velen vinden het een pijnlijk onderzoek. Toch wel een beetje nerveus ga ik mee naar een kamer op de afdeling waar 2 bedden staan, gescheiden door een gordijn. In het bed naast mij ligt een donor waarbij de stamcellen worden geoogst!
De verpleging  legt goed uit wat er gaat gebeuren. De arts komt binnen en geeft nogmaals duidelijk aan wat ze gaat doen. Deze “nul-meting” van bot en beenmerg is nodig om te bepalen of er leukemiecellen inzitten. Als dit zo is krijg ik straks bij de opname een zwaardere chemokuur. Ruim na de transplantatie wordt er nog een keer punctie gedaan om het verschil te bekijken.
De arts tekent met stift de plaats aan waar ze gaat prikken. Eerst een verdoving en na enkele minuten inwerken wordt met een heel klein appelboortje een stukje bot uit mijn heup weggehaald. Door het gemaakte gaatje wordt beenmerg opgezogen. Tenminste, dat is de bedoeling. Kenmerkend voor mijn ziekte is echter dat het beenmerg langzaam wordt vervangen door bindweefsel en dat kan ze niet opzuigen. Een “drytap” heet dit. Dankzij de verdoving voel ik echt nauwelijks iets (!), waardoor we besluiten om vlak naast dit gaatje nog een tweede boring te doen. Helaas levert ook deze boring geen beenmerg op. Ze gaat dit aan de arts doorgeven. Mijn conclusie is in ieder geval wel dat het hard nodig is dat ik nieuw beenmerg krijg 😉 en dat de diagnose dus juist is.
Met een pleister op de plek van de boring moet ik nog een kwartiertje blijven liggen om nabloeden te voorkomen. Ik krijg de slappe lach als ik naar het plafond kijk en besef dat dit de komende weken wel eens een bekend uitzicht kan zijn. Om een uur of twaalf verlaten we het UMCU weer. Moe maar toch wel voldaan dat alle onderzoeken achter de rug zijn gaan we naar huis.
Thuis.
Sinds we weten welk traject ik moet doormaken staat niet ons leven, maar ook ons huis redelijk op zijn kop omdat alles schoon en hygiënisch moet zijn om infecties te voorkomen. Natuurlijk was het huis al schoon,  maar iedereen in huis wil alle risico’s vermijden. Er wordt dus in huis veel gesopt en gepoetst. Vandaag is mijn schoonzus thuis in de badkamer hard aan het werk. Dank aan iedereen die zich zo druk maakt. Zelf hou ik me afzijdig van de schoonmaakacties. Heb er gewoon de energie niet voor. Zo heeft ieder nadeel zijn voordeel.

 

Dinsdag 24-1. de uitslagen.
Om 15 uur melden we ons voor een bezoek aan de arts waarbij we de uitslagen van alle onderzoeken door zullen nemen. Voor het eerst moeten we lang wachten in de wachtkamer. De arts begint keurig met excuses voor het uitlopen van het spreekuur.

We nemen de uitslagen door : pompfunctie hart is goed (=66% = normaal), thorax/longfoto goed, geen virale infecties, ECG goed, longfunctietest goed, buikecho/milt goed. De uitslag van de beenmergpunctie laat nog op zich wachten. Het blijkt niet erg te zijn dat er geen beenmerg is opgezogen. Het stukje bot bevat voldoende informatie. Alle lichten voor de behandeling staan op groen.

Is er een bevestiging dat de donor kan doneren op het gewenste moment?
Eigenlijk hebben we geen vragen. Toch wel een teken dat de voorlichting erg goed is geweest.
O,ja natuurlijk wel een vraag. Is de datum nu al definitief? Met andere woorden, heeft de donor bevestigd dat de 23e februari de stamceltransplantatie kan plaats vinden. De opname (13 februari) en transplantatiedata (23 februari) waren immers onder voorbehoud dat de donor zou kunnen.
De arts loopt de kamer uit om dit na te vragen en komt, helaas, terug met het bericht dat er nog geen bevestiging van de donor binnen is.
Dat is een tegenvaller. We weten het nog steeds niet definitief.

Aan het einde van de middag ga ik even op bed liggen en val gelijk in slaap.

Volgende afspraak is op 7 februari 14:00 voor een controle bezoek.

  2. Hoi allemaal, wat een boel onderzoeken zeg. Maar complimenten aan jou dolf, je weet het allemaal helder en simpel te vertellen! Nu is het natuurlijk weer niet zo simpel als dat het allemaal lijkt. Maar het is wel heel begrijpelijk wat er gebeurt en staat te gebeuren! Fijn dat er groen licht is voor de transplantatie, nu maar hopen dat het tijdschema niet te veel verloopt. Ik duim voor een vlotte bevestiging. Hoe eerder de transplantatie is geweest hoe eerder je weer kunt beginnen met vooruit kijken en opkrabbelen. Succes met de wachttijd overbruggen! Xox

Consumers are thought of as cattle, to be driven past each watering hole and expected to drop cash along the way.
