Op verzoek van Dolf zorg ik, Marjolein, voorlopig voor zijn blog.

Pijnbestrijding is nu nog niet helemaal voldoende, daar wordt nog aan gewerkt. 

Goede (Paas)dag

Dolf hoest minder, is niet meer zo misselijk, heeft niet zo veel zuurstof meer nodig.
Hij heeft vandaag een half broodje hagelslag en een halve kroket op. En wie weet, wat hij met het avondeten nog binnen kan krijgen (en houden!!).

Beenmergpunctie

Dolf heeft nu een keer of 5 een beenmergpunctie moeten laten doen. Ze kunnen beenmerg “optrekken” uit een plat bot (borstbeen of bekken). De laatste 2 keer deed erg zeer, waarschijnlijk omdat het beenmerg door de myelo fibrose gedeeltelijk in bindweefsel is veranderd. Deze keer zal er een roesje worden gegeven, dus de ingreep vindt onder algehele narcose plaats.
Deze week zal een beenmerg punctie worden gedaan om de (witte) bloedcellen goed te kunnen bekijken en om te zien of de acute leukemie onder controle is.Het beenmerg is de bron waar de bloedcellen gemaakt worden en waarvandaan ze in de bloedbaan terecht komen (zie ook hieronder).

Wat is acute leukemie eigenlijk?     (tekst overgenomen uit het patiënten informatie dossier).

Er zijn verschillende vormen van leukemie. Bij iedere soort leukemie gaat het om een ongecontroleerde deling van cellen. Bij acute leukemie gaat het om een bepaald soort witte bloedcellen. De bloedcellen reageren dan niet meer op de signalen die de aanmaak remmen, wanneer er voldoende cellen zijn gevormd.
Hierdoor ontstaan grote hoeveelheden onrijpe bloedcellen. Door de woekering van deze onrijpe cellen komt de productie van de normale cellen in het beenmerg in het gedrang. Eerst is er alleen in het beenmerg een overmaat aan onrijpe cellen. Na verloop van tijd komen de onrijpe cellen ook in de bloedbaan en dus ook in de organen.

Sommige organen kunnen overvol raken met abnormale cellen. Dat is o.a. te merken aan vergrote lymfeklieren, een vergrote milt en/of een vergrote lever. Bij acute leukemie rijpen de bloedcellen niet uit en vindt in korte tijd een ophoping van onrijpe cellen plaats. Al snel treden er klachten op, die het gevolg zijn van een tekort aan normale rijpe bloedcellen.

De naam leukemie

Witte bloedlichaampjes heten leukocyten. Leuko betekent wit. Bloedkanker komt het meest voor in de witte bloedcellen. Daarom wordt bloedkanker ook leukemie genoemd.
