Bloed
Vorige week woensdag is er een bloedtransfusie gegeven en er is ook magnesium via het infuus gegeven.
Dat was dan wel weer een lange dag in het ziekenhuis (van 11.00 tot 18.00 uur).
Vandaag, bij de controle in het UMC, is er weer bloed afgenomen en zijn de volgende bloedwaardes bepaald:
Rode bloedlichaampjes 5.7
Witte bloedlichaampjes 2.7
Bloedplaatjes 131
De hematoloog benadrukt het volgende: de bloedwaardes zijn goed voor dit moment. Waarschijnlijk zal er volgende week toch nog wel een bloedtransfusie nodig zijn, maar dat is gebruikelijk tijdens zo’n traject. Maar:
wat minstens zo belangrijk is, is dat de aanmaak van rode bloedcellen toeneemt.
Dit is te zien aan het aantal jonge rode bloedcellen (reticulocyten). Hoe meer jonge cellen, hoe beter de aanmaak is!!! Goed nieuws dus!!
Medicijnen
Tijdens ieder gesprek met de hematoloog wordt het medicijngebruik grondig doorgenomen.
Welke klachten zijn er (nog)? Wat wordt er gebruikt? Welke hoeveelheden? Uit het bloed (de nierwaarden) is gebleken, dat de spiegel van het afstotingsmedicijn toch nog iets te hoog is. De dosering wordt aangepast.Waarschijnlijk is de misselijkheid, die af en toe nog voorkomt, dan ook verholpen.
Het is fijn, dat met name het aantal pijnstillers verminderd is. Dolf heeft nog wel (spier-) pijn, maar kan met minder pijnstilling toe
Vermoeidheidsklachten
Dolf voelt zich uitgeput. Slaapt ’s nachts bijna altijd goed en daarnaast regelmatig op de dag (zo’n 14 uur per etmaal). Hij heeft weinig energie.
Het medische team is ervan overtuigd, dat we ons hierover geen zorgen hoeven te maken. Weer wordt benadrukt, dat Dolf zo’n diep dal heeft meegemaakt, dat het logisch is, dat de klim naar boven heel lang gaat duren.
Fysiotherapie
Bewegen lukt nog niet zo geweldig. Na een flitsende start 3 weken terug (50 stappen achter de rollator, 2 uur zitten in een stoel) stagneert het herstel. De fysiotherapeut geeft goede tips, oefeningetjes voor op bed, gewichtjes, elastiek -oefeningen. Trap tree op, been bijtrekken, trap tree af…
Maar Dolf heeft weinig energie en uiteraard een slechte conditie. De oefeningen jagen zijn hartslag heel snel omhoog, spieren verzuren en doen pijn. De fysiotherapeut motiveert en controleert: de saturatie (zuurstof in het bloed) blijft goed tijdens de inspanning, de hartslag herstelt zich snel. Dat is een goed teken.
Het gaat nu niet vooruit, zelfs een beetje achteruit. Maar ook hierover moeten we ons geen zorgen maken. Langzaam maar zeker… Af en toe en stapje achteruit kan gebeuren.
Rustig aan, dan breekt het lijntje niet…
We zijn heel gelukkig met het door het UMC behaalde resultaat, het is een wonder dat Dolf nog leeft.
Daar staan we echter niet iedere dag bij stil. Momenteel kijken we gewoon per dag, iedere dag is er één, en de ene dag gaat het beter met Dolf dan de andere dag.
Gelukkig verveelt Dolf zich niet, hij leest de krant, kijkt graag televisie. Het eten gaat ook steeds beter, hij vindt veel voedsel weer lekker, verdraagt het ook beter. Daardoor gaat zijn gewicht ook weer omhoog (70 kilo).
De enige “uitstapjes” , zijn de verplichte controles (en transfusies) in het UMC. Het is ook nog niet gelukt om een rolstoel-wandeling te maken.
We moeten veel geduld hebben, Dolf’s lichaam heeft tijd en veel rust nodig voor het herstel.

Tracy, I read “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” before I read “Hallucinations.” Since I read them so close together, I could definitely see him using the same “m.o.” so to speak. In “Hallucinations” he may have relied more on people telling their own stories, whereas in “The Man…” he was relaying stories of people who, for the most part, were his patients.This book is worth the read. I hope you get it!

I’m pretty sure I’m not pronouncing the names right whenever I read (silently too) but I don’t let that bother me. I’m a big fan of romantic fantasy and fairy tale retellings so those were reasons that added to my curiosity about Daughter of the Forest. But I guess it was mostly fellow book bloggers encouraging me to read the series that finally convinced me. So glad I decided to take the plunge! Sevenwaters is now one of my favorite series as well.PS: I agree about the UK cover of Heir, it’s so pretty. I’m glad I have that edition even though it’s only in paperback. I have the US editions for the other books.

I'm taking next Thursday & Friday off. The Monday after that is our Independence Day, so I'll have a nice long weekend. I'm not really doing anything, just taking some time off for myself. As always, I love your pictures!
all that, i do agree that a lot of college kids want to move here – i don’t blame them – what i was trying to respond to was the implication that smart people move here because they want to be near smart people – i’m sorry, i think there are lots of smart people in the world who like open space, outdoors, nature, short commutes, family time etc. who would love to move out of ny to a place that was less of a hassle IF they could find a job there.ffa

I have to admit I love high heat fast food, when I first started cooking for myself a lot of my recipes were stir fries. In fact we usually still have them at least once a week. I love them because of the immediacy and the flavours. However once you realise that as long as you put the slow cooker on before you go out for the day, you can have dinner on the table even faster than the fastest of stirfry!
